THE FACTS

• Lack of culturally relevant education for African-Canadian students which is linked to academic disengagement and oftentimes involvement in criminal activity
• Statistics show that African-Canadian youth are less likely to pursue post-secondary education than any other ethnic group
• A disproportionate number of African-Canadian youth are quickly branded with various disorders including ADD, ADHD, or OCD and streamlined into behavioural classes which do not address causal factors.
• Holistic nutrition linked to academic success is largely absent in many educational settings today

OUR SOLUTION

S-Shem Ser Qenu is a Culturally-Centered Pre and Elementary school designed to provide education that is culturally relevant and responsive to African-Canadian students. A study of cultures worldwide will reveal that every cultural group understands the need to establish schools which will educate their young and transfer cultural and social values on to the upcoming generation. Initially established in 2004, S-Shem Ser Qenu endeavours to unite education and cultural preservation by providing an educational framework that allows students to strive for and experience:
